A Story That Began with Conservation

Long before talking about parks, attractions or leisure experiences, there was a concern for something far more essential: protecting nature and the species that live in it.

Aspro Natura Foundation

That commitment took shape in 1984 with the creation of the Aspro Natura Foundation. Its mission grew from a simple conviction: to care for nature, we must understand it, and to understand it, we must study it and bring it closer to people.

Since then, the Foundation has developed conservation, research and environmental education initiatives, three lines of work that complement one another. Conservation protects species and the habitats where they live. Research provides the knowledge needed to do it well. And environmental education ensures that this knowledge reaches society and inspires respect for the natural world.

Over the years, this work grew and led to new projects focused on protecting wildlife and sharing knowledge about nature. And it was precisely along this path that a new chapter began.

From Conservation to Leisure

In October 1991, Aspro Parks was born with its first two parks in Spain: Marineland Catalunya and Marineland Mallorca. These two marine-themed parks marked the starting point of a project that aimed to bring nature closer to people through leisure and hands-on experience.

From 1992, the company entered a phase of growth with the opening of Aqualeon and Aqualand Torremolinos. This was the beginning of a new line of business, water parks, which consolidated throughout the decade with the addition of new Aqualand parks between 1992 and 2000.

The project then began to look beyond Spain’s borders. In 1999, it took the leap abroad with its arrival in France and Switzerland, a decisive step that showed the model could grow and adapt to new markets and new audiences. A year later, in 2000, Aquarium Barcelona opened its doors, extending the company’s offering to aquariums and strengthening its connection with the marine world.

Expansion continued in 2008 with the arrival in England, and further additions followed in Finland and the Netherlands. They were joined by venues such as Western Park, Jungle Park and Palmitos Park, which further enriched the variety of experiences the group offers.

Today

Today, Aspro Parks has more than 40 parks and leisure centres across Europe, combining water parks, theme parks, aquariums, and zoological and marine centres.

Yet throughout this evolution, one thing remains: nature is still at the origin and heart of Aspro’s identity. Conservation, environmental education and research continue to be carried out through the Aspro Natura Foundation.

From the protection of nature came a way of bringing it closer to people. And from that first initiative grew a leisure company that, more than four decades later, continues to evolve and grow without losing sight of its roots.
